Things I Know For Sure – Part 3

The first step in any rehabilitation program is admitting you have a problem.   The admission, for some, is the hardest part, but nothing can be done until the problem is recognized, said out loud, shouted from the mountain tops.  Only then does this addiction becomes less of an obstacle.

When it comes to having obstacles in your own happiness, it’s equally important to identify them.  You have a choice to make – struggle against them or work in tandem with them.  One of the worst things we can do is to push…throwing our weight against the immovable obstruction before us, we assume that this time we will be met with a different outcome, the outcome that we desire.  But the same choices yield the same results.  The only way to overcome is not to push…but to step aside.  To live patiently.  To trust that what will be will be.  For if you’re not met halfway, you have to stop trying.

I’m a fighter.  I fight for things I believe in, for people I believe in, for situations I believe in.  I’m now waving my white flag.  For I deserve to be fought for. One.  Goddamn. Time.

A shift in consciousness is needed.  For I’ve learned that the problems that face us cannot be solved at the same level of consciousness that created them.  We get nothing out of unyielding repetition.  My well-worn circular path is now abandoned, soon to be overgrown with weeds.

I spend a lot of time attempting to put my heart into words…to communicate my thoughts, sadness, fears, loves, hopes, and passions into black Helvetica letters on a white page.  But sometimes there aren’t words.  Or at least, not the right ones, anyway.  I’m working on a list of things in my life that are poisonous to my happiness. Admitting that they don’t nurture me is the first step in ridding my life of their stink.  Change begets change.  It’s time for a little spring-cleaning.
