Be the ball.

We all know that change is painfully slow, often due to our own incapacities to get beyond the present.  But decisions are made for us, and so change becomes inevitable. We cannot resist…but we do not have to take it all in stride.  We can make change work for us.

Though many changes are unavoidable, we should never believe that we are subject to the whims of an unpredictable universe.  A friend in DC told me a mantra that she lives by: Respond.  Don’t react. It is our response to what we are handed that dictates the nature of our experiences. We are masters of our own destinies and can take the risks we have been afraid to take.  We can make change work for us.  How we do things is as important as what we do.

The first step to getting what you want in life is knowing what you want. You have to say it out loud.  I’m not kidding…you have to say it and the Universe needs to hear it.  How often have we heard that men are not mind-readers?  Picture that the Universe is a man, sitting on his couch, watching the World Cup.  Tell him what you want.  It’s the only surefire way to get it.  We have to say it out loud, imagine how it will happen, and then make it happen.  The Universe guides us, but it doesn’t lead us.  So stop putting your life in the hands of faith.  Faith only plays one hand in this game of cards.  The rest is up to us.  Faith is not an excuse for inaction.

We have to “be the ball, be the ball, be the ball.” As silly as it sounds, it’s Chevy only speaking the truth.
